MANILA, Philippines — The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has granted the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) authority to recruit 8,734 Police Officer 1s (PO1s) under the PNP attrition recruitment program for the first semester of Calendar Year 2011.

Effected through a resolution, the directive states that the total quota of 8,734 PO1s will be distributed to the city/municipal police stations of the 17 Police Regional Offices (PROs) nationwide, as follows: PRO-1 – 417; PRO-1 – 334; PRO-3 – 713; PRO-4A – 681; PRO-4B – 202; PRO-5 – 485; PRO-6 – 636; PRO-7 – 530; PRO-8 – 450; PRO-9 – 347; PRO-10 – 411; PRO-11 – 433; PRO-12 – 376; PRO-13 – 257; PRO-CAR – 302; PRO-ARMM – 530; and NCRPO – 1,630.

Napolcom Vice Chairman and Executive Officer Eduardo Escueta said the new distribution of the recruitment quota was based on the number of PNP uniformed personnel who retired, died, dropped from the rolls, separation, dismissal and resignation from the service in the Police Regional Offices.

“The present recruitment program intends to augment personnel strength in the Police Regional Offices and enhance the police visibility program of the PNP,” Escueta said.

The new resolution came at the heels of two Memorandum Circulars (MCs) issued by the Commission which would affect the recruitment process of police applicants and the entry of lateral applicants into the PNP service.

One of them, MC No. 2011-007, authorizes city and municipal mayors to head the ad hoc body that conducts initial screening of police recruits in their locality, Escueta said.

Meanwhile, MC No. 2011-005 amends the prescribed sequential procedures in the processing of lateral entry applicants in the national police force and the guidelines on probationary period as provided for under the Napolcom MC No. 2008-006.
